What Over the Counter Medication Is Addictive in California?
Question by Daniel: What over the counter medication is addictive in California?
I’m doing a project for psychology and I need to know what kind of medication that can be physically addictive that is over the counter and needs no doctor’s prescription.
Please and thank you =D

None that I know of. Addictive medications that I am familiar with are controlled drugs and require a prescription.
There are a few I think people say they are addicted too, like anti-histamines, but I don’t think they are actually physically addictive.

Anti-histamines if used constantly for sleep (you won’t be able to sleep and will feel nervous without them), stimulant laxatives if used chronically (you won’t be able to have a bowl movement without them), some nasal sprays (your nose will constantly be swollen shut inside without it if used excessively), and I am not sure if codeine is sold over the counter in CA like it is in some states, but obviously that is addictive. That is all I can think of at the moment, but there is probably more.
Of course these may not be the “addictive” potentials you are speaking of. But all of these, if taken chronically, will cause you ill effects when stopped.
