Question by Swampy: Why do some sleeping pills claim to be “non-narcotic”?
ambien and lunesta, I believe claim to be non-narcotic. I don’t understand, isn’t a sleeping pill, by it’s very nature, a narcotic?
It this a marketing ploy to play down the dangers of taking sleeping pills? I also noticed they call it a sleeping aid, not a pill, clever wording.

Old fashioned sleeping pills like: HALCYON were a type of “narcotic”, but they arent ‘opioids’. Ambien is not a narcotic and neither is lunesta.
Go to web-md and look up all 3, or go to PDR on-line (that’s the book docs use to find out about medicines — it’s available on the net too!!! I would never take any drug w/o reading up on it & I would never take any drug unless it has been in use at least 5yrs, but I prefer 10yrs.
Drug companies used to test new drugs for many years b4 ever putting them out to the public, but that was hindering their bottom-line (keeping them from making money right away). So they made a deal with some idiot(s) at the ADA and they starting shortening testing times and after several yrs they’ve been talked into (and ‘what TALKS ???) LETTING DRUG COMPANIES PUT NEW DRUGS OUT THERE, BASICALLY UNTESTED, BY PROMISING THEY’LL TEST THEM ‘LATER’ !!! wHAT A JOKE — not laughing — they are TESTING THEM ON THE PUBLIC !!!!!! That’s where they’re testing them !!! PEOPLE get together — REFUSE to take any drug that hasnt been on the market for 10 years or at least tested for 5 years on humans!!! And be sure to go find the studies and read them b4 you SWALLOW !!!!
A WOMAN i KNOW IN NAPLES, FL. was DIAGNOSED with HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE & given SOME PILLS, she then HAD SEVERE REACTION and ALMOST DIED, she MAY NEVER RECOVER !!!!!!! She spent 2 weeks in the hospital and huge personal expense — of course they are suing the DRUG COMPANY and the DOCTOR (as he should not dispense drugs w/o knowing about them & becuz of his misdiagnosis). But it wouldn’t help if she had died !!!!!! And even tho she lived her journey thru hell is not over !!!! Just a word to the wise — study your ‘disease’, know everything you can know about it, dont swallow pills on “faith” — the drug companies no longer care about anything except MONEY !!!!!!!! And get 2 to 4 opinions from doctors who do not know each other and do not tell them about what another doctor said about youand your case !!!! Youre paying the new doctor to diagnos, not to agree with his fellow doc out of courtesy and they will do so in a Heart-Beat !!!!!!!!!!
Doctors are NOT GODS !!! They dont have God’s ear or God’s knowledge and some (a lot of them) scraped by in school on high Ds or low Cs !!!!! Find the ones that got As !!!!!!!!!
