Misdemeanor – Possession of Alcohol “Please Help”?

Question by Bryan: Misdemeanor – Possession of Alcohol “Please Help”?
Good things don’t happen to me often and bad things just seems to happen once too often.

I was recently charged for an illegal possession of alcohol.

And my court appearance is coming up soon, where i will be facing a judge and plead guilty or not, and then pay a fine.

Thing is, when i got this misdemeanor, i was literally only a week away from turning 21, the legal age.

Problem is that the fine is way over my head. I am expected to pay around $ 300-$ 400. Although i do not deny that it was my fault, three hundred dollars isn’t something that i can come-by very easily.

For all smooth-talkers and law-enforcement-experts out there, please help – Is there anything i can do or say (to the judge) to avoid/lessen the fine?

Thank you for all your answers 🙂

You can ask for an installment plan for payment.

You can ask for an extension once.

Do not neglect this though as it will lead to a warrant and jail.

Sometimes we make our own trouble. 🙂

You should see the Public Defender at the courthouse early and he may get the fine lowered. You can’t. He is free.

You may not get be to successful in getting the fine reduced but is likely that the judge will allow you to make payments on the fine. In California they will charge you an additional $ 35 to set this up.

Yeah, this sucks but it is better than trying to come up with the money by a specified date.

When the judge gives you the fine ask him if you can make payments.
