Class of 88?
Question by It’s Ms. Fusion if you’re Nasty!: Class of 88?
What stands out most for you when you think back to your teen years in the 80’s? The wild hair? The music? The vocabulary…”like TOTALLY…”! lol! What were some memorable times or things that stand out to you? Weren’t the 80’s such a strange time to be a teenager?
Yes, I remember those parties as well…and sipping vodka in the back of the school bus with the marching band on the way to a parade competition…lol
And the new wave music was a bit “out there,” don’t you think?
But we saw the emergence of heavy metal…and we got to experience Metallica from the beginning…lol!
And MTV…born in our generation…!

The crazy synth music made by gay guys and the funny mullets and clothes. I graduated in 88′ too. Strange times were the 80’s.

We got away with a lot more than teenagers now (with “helicopter” parents) do. I was in high school in the 80s…we were allowed to smoke outside. (In retrospect, this was hardly a great thing, but it shows how much looser the rules were.) When we had keg parties, it was just a bit naughty…in a “teenagers will be teenagers” way, rather than the federal case it is now. We smoked pot, and nobody marched us into drug rehab. We used to take field trips into the city and were told to “meet back at the bus” at 1:00. No cell phones. Nobody knew where we went in the interim. Nobody kept us in a hermetically sealed, germ-free bubble of parental paranoia. I wouldn’t want to be a teenager nowadays for all the money in the world.
