I really need help with this essay im writing and its about the book “Go Ask Alice”.
Does anyone know what the main theme is??
That would be really helpful.
Ive read the book but im horrible at picking out themes and I just have no idea what it is.
Also we need to pick a quote that represents the theme.
If you could help me out with that also that would be wonderful.
And no the quote does NOT have to be from the book.

I think this is a great quote that goes with the whole book: (not from the book)
“I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.”
and a theme could be “Problems of Adolescent Identity”(quote: “Oh dear god, help me adjust, help me be accepted, help me belong, don’t let me be an outcast and a drag on my family,” (Anonymous, 13). from book )
another good one could be “Isolation” (which I think is actually the soul of her-the reason behind all her actions)…
and of course “teenage drug addiction” (quote: “addiction is a bitch”-not from book)

I loved that book and I think your theme should be how the whole reason why she really became a druggie was because if you remember in the beginning she doesn’t have any friends and desperately wants a new start when she moves..a good quote would be…
“I want so much to be someone important, or even just asked out by a boy every once in a while. Maybe the new me will be different.” p10.
or…
“I’m partly somebody else trying to fit in and say the right things and do the right thing and be in the right place and wear what everybody else is wearing. Sometimes I think we’re all trying to be shadows of each other…” p16.
