Ritalin vs. Adderal and Other ADHD MEDS?

Question by : Ritalin Vs. Adderal and Other ADHD MEDS?
Is ritalin the safest? I have adhd and want to take the safest one. Concerta helped me in the past but was far too long lasting. Ritalin seems good, but ive been told it has more side effects than adderal. Also, I have suffered paranoia in the past, which makes me hesitant to try a stimulant. I feel paranoid on most days due to my anxiety. Would ritalin be a bad idea, as concerta helped with my anxiety when i took it. Thanks

Methylphenidateis (MPH) is called Ritalin (Novartis Co) and it is also called Concerta; it’s the same drug with different names. Also called Metadate and Methylin. Ritalin is the oldest and therefore most commonly known brand name.

It raises the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, and is structurally similar to amphetamines, and the pharacological effects are more closely related to cocaine.

There are no long term studies on the effects of this drug on long time users, but drug dependence, tolerance, cross tolerance with other stimulants such as amphetamines and cocaine, paranoia, schizophrenia and behavioral sensitization are indicated. Psychotic symptoms include hearing voices, visual hallucinations, urges to harm oneself, severe anxiety, euphoria, grandiosity, paranoid delusion, confusion, increased aggression and irritability; and it’s unpredictable. One study of almost 100 children showed 6% became psychotic after months or years of MPH use, psychosis left most of them after MPH was stopped.

Adderall is a mixture of 4 amphetamines and is available in instant release (IR) and extended release (XR). It is a powerful stimulant, like MPH, and also has a “significant potential for abuse and addiction.”
