Use of cocaine or crack may cause seizures, cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest or a stroke. Death by heart attack may result with any use, even first time use, for people of any age.

Cocaine gives the user a heady rush. The user generally becomes unusually energetic and alert, loses interest in food, and has no need for sleep. The immediate symptoms are mixed; the user might become unusually talkative, self-confident and in control. Or the user could experience anxiety, become quickly irritable and unhappy. Physical symptoms are a sudden increase in heart rate and blood pressure, an increase in breathing rate and body temperature, a dry mouth, dilated pupils, exaggerated movements and a stuffy or runny nose.
