Try this:
having been sent to a rehab center for teens with problems
OR
getting into a rehab for troubled youth

I’m thinking that the phrase ‘being involved’ is a bit too general. It could mean anything from volunteering to help patients, to being a paid staff member, to being the rehab center’s gardner, to being a patient, either voluntarily or forcefully.
So, how involved: enrolled, enlisted, forced into, etc.?
It’s been almost a year now, and he disappeared from view–forced into an aboard rehab center for troubled teens.
It’s been almost a year now, and he disappeared from view–checked into an aboard rehab center for troubled teens.
Also, the word ‘aboard.’ I’ve never heard that used in reference to a rehab center. Is it correct?
