The taboo of drinking really makes alcoholism, and alcohol use more apparent in the US then in any other country I have seen.

This country was founded on and presided over by Puritan WASPs for over 200 years – the same puritans that were even too strict for ENGLAND….what do you expect?

True…very true. In other countries the drinking age is lower, so they dont give a damn about drinking. here they make such a fuss and are so stringent on it that kids are like dying to drink by like 13. Im all for laws and everything, but making it taboo as you said will just end up making the problem worse.
